Textile Explorations :
Sense of Place

Each year from September through to June we run a once-a-month art textiles course on various weekdays; Monday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday 10:00-15:30

The next course will commence in September 2025

This year's theme will be 'Sense of Place' (*working title) - we'll be taking inspiration from details such as tiles, doors, signage, and colours to create work depicting features of a place/places.

We will spend time developing ideas in a sketchbook, then go on to dye and print a collection of fabrics and papers. These will be used in creating a series of textile art pieces/textile books. Along the way explore a variety of surface print techniques, as well as how to incorporate stitch.

Priority places will go to existing monthly group participants, if you are ineterested in joining please get in touch.

Studio Days

Each month Liske runs a 'studio day' (sometimes two) in which you can come and take advantage of the space and facilities to work on your own projects. At the same time spending a creative day with like-minded people. 

You can make use of the screens, fabric paints, dyes and more. Or bring along your WIP & sewing machine... whatever takes your fancy!

Liske & Claire are excitied to bring you a monthly Wednesday evening creative session, the focus of these will be on well-bring and mindfullness.

These sessions will be informal and suitable for all levels of experience. They are for anyone who enjoys being creative, trying new styles of work, and meeting like-minded people.

Numbers will be limited so you do need to book your place, the session will run from 7pm-9pm. 

£10 per session including materials and refreshments.

Lovely Little Pots

Spend a mindful day at the studio with Liske and claire creating two or three lovely pots.

We'll ease you in with a 'fabric mache' style pot, then go onto create a collage of handprinted fabrics which will form the base of a beautiful stitch pot, or two.

Sewing machine optional, the focus will be on hand stitching and if you're a beginner we'll intorduce you to our favourite stitches.

£75 including refreshments and all materials. 

Lampshade :
Print & Make

Saturday 22nd February 10:00 - 15:30

Join us for a relaxing day at the studio fabric printing and creating either a pair of lovely lanterns or your own bespoke lampshade.

You will spend the morning printing your own fabric using thermofax screens as well as Indian wooden print blocks, no experience necessary, you will be given tuition on both techniques and plenty of time to practice before printing your own fabric for use on your final item(s).

When combined with a tea light or some fairy lights the lanterns give out a lovely glow, and the lampshades on offer are a 30cm drum style, a perfect update to any room..

No sewing involved.

Additional lantern/ lampshade kits can be purchased on the day.

Slow Stitch Stories
with Jo Smith

Takes place over two sessions; Monday 3rd March & Monday 7th April 2025

A mindful hand-stitch seasonal textile course.

Most of us have a stash of dyed/printed fabrics and threads that we are not sure what to do with, this course will help to give some of them a new lease of life.

With the seasons and nature as a starting point, Jo will guide you in using these fabrics to create a layered background. You will use hand-stitch to hold the fabrics together and create the surface detail. Jo will introduce you to all of her favourite stitches and you can decide which to use on your piece as it develops into a unique piece of textile art. 

This will be a mindful stitching experience, and opportunity to slow down and enjoy the process.

£140 including refreshments and most materials. 

Colour Families & Thermofax Printing

Wednesday 5th & Thursday 6th March 2025 *2 places

A must-do course for anyone interested in dyeing their own fabrics!

Spend a colourful couple of days at the studio learning how to use procion MX dyes to develop an extensive pallette. 

Create harmonious colour families and go on to explore these colours further with various mark-making techniques and thermofax printing.

You will build up a detailed visual reference of a number of colour schemes on fabric as well as learning the method to explore any colour and value scheme of your choice. 

You will also create exciting pieces of cloth along the way!

£150 including refreshments and most materials. 

Textile Collage : Spring Flowers

Saturday 8th March, 10:00-16:00

Spend a colourful day creating a vibrant vase of tulips or hydrangeas that will last forever.

Liske & Claire will guide you through the porcess of creating your collage, and sharing some short-cuts along the way! You can use your own fabric off-cuts or take advantage of our hand-dyed and printed fabrics. You will also have a chance to print your own fabrics for the vase.

Your finished piece will be A3 size, and perfect to frame or mount on a canvas.

Sewing machine and some sewing experience required.

£75 including some materials and refreshments.

Gelli Print - Collage - Landscape

Saturday 29th March, 10:00-16:00 *full, e'mail to be first on waiting list

A new workshop for 2025!

Spend the morning getting to grips with gelli plate printning in order to build a collection of coloured papers with subtle marks and textures. Claire will guide you through a variety of techniques.

In the afternoon we will take inspiration from the work of artist Barbara Rae to create a vibrant layered landscape.

This can then be worked onto with additional layers of marks, line and stitch.

£75 including all materials and refreshments.

I'm taking the best bits of our monthly maps course and fitting them into three creative days.

Dyeing Play Day

Friday 25th April 2025, 10:00-15.00 

This is a colourful day and a chance to create your own collection of fabrics, you could dye a rainbow or opt for more muted tones. We will use procion dyes on natural fabircs.

Explore colour mixing in order to achive the colours of your choice.

Suitable to beginners or those wishing to top up their fabric stash.

£75 including dyes and refreshments - own fabric required, or can be pre-ordered

Seaside Squares :
Print-Collage-Stitch

Thursday 26th June 2025, 10:00-15.30 

This lovely seasonal workshop with Liske covers a little bit of everything... start the day by painting and printing some fabrics before creating a landscape inspired collage. 

We will then go on to abstract the collage and add a layer of stitch, both by hand and machine.

You will create a piece of textile art approxximately 30cm x 30cm, ideal for framing,

£75 including all materials and refreshments.

Indigo : Shibori & Stitch

Wednesday 2nd July 2025, 10:00-15:30 

Spend a day exploring the magic of indigo. 

We will introduce you to some basic shibori techniques. Shibori is a Japanese resist dyeing method used to create bold patterns in the fabric. Techniques include folding, wrapping, clamping and stitching to create a resist. 

You will create a stash of samples.

This workshop is suitable for beginners, or those with more experience wishing to top up their collection of indigo blues.

£75 including dye and refreshments. You're welcome to bring along additional fabrics to dye. 

Print & Stitch the Coast

4th & 5th July July 2025, 10:00-15:30 

This is an updated version of what was a beautiful course last year.

This time the focus will be on fabrics with an element of transparency, along with some stitch exploration too.

We will work again with thickened procion dye in order to build colour and pattern on your fabrics.

Add print using our wide range of thermifax screens, and create your won unique design with a breakdown screen print, 

Explore formusol discharge paste to de-colour the fabrics.

Finally we will experiment with water soluble fabric and stitch to create details that can be added to your fabrics.

£160 including most materials and refreshments. You're welcome to bring along additional fabrics to dye. Own sewing machine required on day 2.

Summer School :
Happy Place

This course takes place over four days;

July 9th & 10th, 14th & 15th 2025 10:00-15:30 *full

OR

September 17th & 18th, 22nd & 23rd 2025

Our 2025 summer school with Liske is all about creating a landscape piece to remind you of your 'happy place' - this could be a favourite holiday destination, a beautiful view or even your garden.

On the first two days we will do some planning and design work before dyeing and printing a collection of fabrics that will be used to represent your chosen place/landscape. We will use thickened dyes, thermofax print, mark-making, and breakdown screen printing.

Then return the following week with your rinsed out fabrics and we will explore the options of textile collage or improvised piecing in order to create your piece of textile art.

£250 including all materials and refreshments.

Own sewing machine required.

Eco-printing on Paper :

Monday 1st September 2025 10:00-16:00

A fun, one-day workshop exploring the magical world of eco printing.

Spend a day creating beautiful prints on paper using leaves and flowers. You will be able to print a selection of papers and also a small book.

Learn a little about which plants work best and how to use different ‘blankets’ to create different backgrounds.

£85 including all materials and refreshments.

Sari-scapes :
Collage and Stitch

Saturday 27th September 2025 10:00-15:30

Another lovely new workshop for 2025.

We'll be using beautiful indian fabrics and sari ribbons, along with some indigo.

We'll help you design your landscapes with some simple drawing exercises. Then pick your favourites to transform into textile art.

You'll leave with 2, or 3 small stitched landscapes which can be framed or attached to a wooden panel.

£75 including most materials and refreshments.

Indigo - Print - Wax Resist

Saturday 6th September 2025 10:00-15:30

A new indigo dyeing combination for 2025!

We will begin by adding print and wax resist to undyed fabrics.

You will have time to explore both thermofax screen printing as well as indian bock printing.

In the afternoon your fabrics will be dyed in the indigo vat where we will dip them multipe times in order to build up a variety of shades of blue.

You will create a beautiful collection of fabrics to use in future projects.

£75 including most materials and refreshments.

Print & Stitch: Autumn Leaves

Saturday 18th October 2025, 10:00-16:00 

Join Liske and Claire on this mixed media workshop. Using found leaves we will print onto a variety of surfaces including cotton, linen, lutradur and paper. 

We will explore relief printing directly from the leaves, as well as using a gelli plate.

Subtle background colour will be added using ink, tea and coffee.

Your favourite prints will be stitched onto a painted lutradur background, then embellished further with machine stitch, hand stitch and stitching with water soluble fabirc, to create a unique piece of textile art.

£75 including all materials and refreshments. Own sewing machine required.
